Investment vs Loan Prepayment Calculator
Compare investing extra money versus prepaying your loan. Calculate investment growth, interest savings, EMI tenure and projected outcomes.
Don't just calculate your EMI or SIP. Compare what you could do with your next ₹5,000, ₹10,000 or ₹20,000.
What happens if you invest extra vs prepay a loan?
Many households have both a SIP and an EMI. When a little extra cash shows up each month, the usual question is whether to raise the SIP or pay the loan down faster. This calculator keeps the extra amount the same and shows both sides: projected investment value, remaining loan interest, tenure and a simple net position.
How the scenario cards work
Templates such as All SIP, SIP + RD and SIP + Extra EMI are starting points only. On the comparison screen you can edit every amount, add or remove an allocation, and rename a card. Each scenario keeps its own figures, so changing one mix does not change the others. A scenario is calculated only when its allocation equals the extra monthly amount you entered.
Frequently asked questions
What does this calculator compare?
It takes your current SIP or corpus, your existing EMI, and an extra monthly amount. You then edit each scenario's allocation — SIP, RD, extra EMI and other uses — and compare projected investment value, interest saved and loan tenure.
Do I need to enter remaining tenure?
No. Outstanding principal, interest rate and EMI are enough to estimate remaining months. If you know the tenure, enter it and we will use it for the schedule.
Are investment returns guaranteed?
No. The return rate is an assumption you type. Results are illustrative projections. Markets, tax and fund costs will change real outcomes.
Is prepaying a loan always better?
No. The calculator only shows the modelled difference: extra corpus versus interest saved and an earlier payoff. Charges, floating rates and cash-flow needs can change the real result.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is a calculation tool. Which path you pick depends on your circumstances, risk tolerance and lender rules.
